Granholm calls for repealing business tax by end of 2006
Ba BOOM! Way to go Jennifer.

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Gov. Jennifer Granholm on Wednesday called on Republican legislative leaders to abolish the state's main corporate tax by the end of this year rather than waiting until the end of 2007.

She asked Senate Majority Leader Ken Sikkema of Wyoming and House Speaker Craig DeRoche of Novi to sign an agreement that they will pass a bill to repeal the Single Business Tax by the end of this year and adopt a business tax that does not raise taxes on individuals and that replaces the nearly $2 billion generated by the existing tax.

Sikkema spokesman Ari Adler said the Republican leader thinks it's a bad idea to try to restructure the tax during an election year and has no intention of signing the agreement.

"Sen. Sikkema does not sign pledges like this because he believes they are campaign gimmicks. It is the governor's job to sign bills, not pledges," Adler said.

HAHAHAHA! Riiiiight. NOW it's a campaign gimmick. Gotcha Ken.

Well, I guess if anyone knows anything about "campaign gimmicks" it's the Republicans, eh? But it's good to see them admit that this issue falls along the line of "campaign gimmicks" in their mind.
